I am delighted to present this souvenir to you. This is the second time we are bringing out a souvenir. The first one was in 2010, after the temple was firmly established as a prominent place of worship for Hindus throughout this part of the country. Now, I am happy to say that with the installation of the Raja Gopuram, my vision for the temple has come to fruition. I am dedicating this souvenir to each one of our devotees who have supported me throughout this period and whose support I look forward to in the future.
We had a very small beginning. In 2005, I decided to move from Albany, where I was the Head Priest, to establish a temple of my own. From these humble origins, the temple has grown into a primary place of worship for several hundred families in the area. While I can say with satisfaction that one part of my vision for the temple has been accomplished, I want to reiterate that a temple is a living institution that is continuously evolving. I do not know what the future holds, but I am certain that in this increasingly complex world, beset with so many problems and challenges, the temple will continue to be a place of peace and worship. This temple will offer hope and sanctuary from the troubles of the world. To this end, I look forward to your continued support.
Devotees come to the temple for different reasons. For many of us, it is simply a part of our routine and upbringing. Many families have the tradition of visiting a temple at least once a week and on special occasions such as birthdays or festival days. Others come to the temple seeking solace from the troubles of the world. Health, financial, and relationship issues are very common in this stressful world, and whenever one finds themselves in a helpless situation, they visit the temple seeking answers or inspiration. We also visit the temple to celebrate – the birth of a child, its first food, or to give it a head start in learning. Whatever the reason for visiting the temple, these will continue to exist in the coming years. And I would like our temple to be present for such occasions.
Over the years, I have been very fortunate to be supported by so many people in the formation and running of the temple. First and foremost, I must thank my board of trustees, who have provided me with unstinting support over the years. Several of them have known me since my days in Albany, and they have continued to support me even as I shifted to New Jersey to establish this temple. We have an outstanding group of volunteers who help run the temple. These devotees assist in all aspects of the temple – chanting, assisting in the pooja rituals, prasadam preparation and distribution, parking, ticketing, and maintenance of the temple campus.
In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to the devotees and seek their continued support in the coming years. May Lord Raja Ganapati shower His blessings on our devotees and supporters.
